  1. I have a used Ult3 that I have gotten to work pretty well now (with help from people on here!! Thank you !! I am really liking it, and it is printing the ABS parts that I need really well!!! I am considering getting an additional printer, just for making (the same) ABS parts, so I would not need the second extruder. I am cheap (frugal? poor? all of the above?) , and I am seeing Ult2+ selling fairly affordable on ebay, and wanted to ask if people think I would happy with it? Is its print quality comparable to the Ult3, but just with a single extruder? Is the active bed leveling as good? I am not sure how different the Ult3 is from the Ult2+ ? Any advice is appreciated! Thank you!
  2. Ok... life got in the way, and had to take a break from this project. still at the same point.. about to take the whole print head assembly apart, to get this out..... If I mess up, where can I get a new print head assembly ? (the part that the AA and BB print heads slide into) ? I have been looking on ebay to see if i can find one used... not luck.. or maybe I am not using the correct name? Thank you in advance for any help! Dantan
  3. Do I need to replace the whole .. carriage? assembly? Where is a good source for affordable parts? This machine had a lot of use before i got it... but the specs are good for this machine, and I think it will definitely do what I need, if i can get it to work with out too much cost. Thank you in advance Dantan
  4. @Torgeir There is not filament loaded yet. the print head did not fit into the .. carriage? all the way, and now I can not get it OUT of the carriage.
  5. FYI: I screwed up, and said S3 in the topic.. it is Ultimaker 3 NOT S3 can not figure out how to change it.
  6. I am trying to get my (new to me) Ultimaker 3 working. I had a "flooding(?)" issue.. and the AA print head was trashed. I think i got it all fixed, and I ordered a new AA print core on Amazon. It does not seem to fit... and I of course, was too aggressive, and now I can not get it OUT! I can not get it to go in all the way, nor can I get it to come out again. I went to Amazon page that I got it from, and when I looked at it more closely, saw that it said " Compatibility: for Ultimaker 3 Extended, for Ultimaker S5" Does that mean there is s different print core for the Ultimaker 3 ?? Or did I end up with an off brand knock off, that does not fit? The link for the one I got is: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B089CJ45WD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Last question: ANY suggestions on how to get this print core out?? I was really looking forward to using this machine, but so far, it has just been a pain in the butt.
  7. So...... the order of events: when I saw the blob all up inside the enclosure, I backed the filament out of nozzle 1.... (successfully) , I pulled the "blob out", and it pulled the wires out.. and I immediately got an error saying something like nozzle heat too hot..... error.. and the heating shut down. The print core for #1, is jammed tight, and will not pull out(also has two wires pulled out) and the print core in #2, will not come out either, because I can not heat/back out the filament. I think I am going to have to take the entire assembly apart.. 😕 can anyone recommend a good video/tutorial on how to do so? I did get this machine recently, and I do not know how well it was maintained. If I have to open it up anyway, any recommendation on maintenance I should do while I am there? Dantan
  8. So.. I did an over night print, and somehow the melted filiment backed up, and filled up the interior of the print head. First picture is the bllob that I managed to pullout. it litteraly pushed the door/flap thing almost all the way off. (see pic two) there are now 4 wires (two groups of two) that are obviously dangling/disconnected. The pair in the back (white and red), look like they probably go to the "sensor" and "shield" pins on the board. (I think) the other pair are both white, and seem like they are high temp? NOT obvious where they go. The last pair (that I think are still connected), probably go to the fan. My Question: Please tell me where they need to go?? Thank you in advance. Dantan
  9. So, I ended up with a hand me down UM3, that needed a bit of work. (new LCD panel, among other things. A friend with way more electrical experience then me, is working on it. Apparently in the process, he broke the "encoder board", while replacing the LCD Panel. I am not sure if that means we need to get a whole new mother board, or if the encoder was on a different board? We think that this is the only problem with this machine at this point( again, we THINK this is the last problem). The machine came out of a school environment, and probably has a lot of miles on it). My question(s) are: 1) is it worth saving? I think he said the new board would cost $200. 2) Are there other/better? mother boards out there? and if so, what would be the benefit? I am on a budget, but am really looking forward to getting this machine to work, as it is a considerable upgrade from my current printer. Thank you for any advice!! Mike P.S. Got a little more information: was told it was not the motherboard... but the "Encoder board", and that he can not find where to get that part. Would it be included if we found/bought a new mother board?
  10. Ok... sorry, but there is a bit of a preamble before I get to the meat of my questions. ME: I have been using an older generic 3d printer( QIUI II) with Simplify 3D, for a while. Still climbing the learning curve with CAD to do stuff. I was given a "Decommissioned" Ultimaker 3. I do not know how much it was used, but I am going to assume a fair amount. (school environment). Unfortunately, the way it was "decommissioned". it was replaced, and then someone put a sign on it that said "Still works, needs a little TLC". It then got put in a pile of other stuff, to be taken to the recycling center on campus. What sucks is that then the facility guys show up with be carts, and TOSS everything into the bins.. yes.. with stuff TOSSED in on top also. End result, by the time I got it, things I *know* are an issue, Missing one 6mm rod/rail for the head to travel on (I replaced), Missing Power supply, missing filament spool holders. I can also see that one of the wires for the heated bed cable has kind of burnt out/exposed wire. I think it might also be missing a cable that I do not know what it does.. called the "NFC" cable? maybe it goes to the filament roller thing that I do not have? The head has in it an AA .4 and a BB .4 nozzles, which look ok... but probably no big deal to replace. I did buy a power supply off ebay... when I turn it on, the control knob lights up, but the display screen is blank. So.. my long rambling question: Does it sound like this is worth saving? Do you have any suggestions that I should check, to see if it has other problems? I can put some money into it, but $3000 for a working used UM3 , or more for other models, is not really in my budget. I would LOVE to get this machine working , because it is way more advanced than my current printer.... but.... I need to decide if it is reasonable to rebuild it, if the parts are ultimately too expensive.
