Posted · Has the glass a special coating when the UM2 is delivered

Hi,

I just received a couple of weeks ago my new UM2 Extended and I must say I'm very impressed.

The glass which was delivered with the heated bed held the parts in place like a charm and seemed to be dead flat compared to my other 3d printer. Nevertheless that stickness seemed to be lost now for a reason which I haven't been able yet to tackle down.

Has the glass on the heated bed a special coating applied which might have been rubbed off during cleaning? The parts always used to stick on the glass and I haven't been able to pull them off until I was soaking the glass in cold water together with my 3d printed part. Then it popped off out of a sudden.

What can I do to get this impressive behavior back?

Well I used that, also tried it with dishwasher solution. But the original sticking out of the box never came back. I didn't use scratchers or anything rough to remove my prints

I actually had the reverse problem, the 'new' glass seemed to stick TOO well to the point where I couldn't get prints off.

You just have to level your bed a bit closer and it works like a charm again AND it's easier to release when done.

Alternatively if you really want it to stick well you can use a bit of gluestick.

I eather take it out and clean with hand soap and hot water, or wipe clean with alcohol. Main thing is to avoid touching it with your hands.

The origional glue supplied was great it didn't try out on the heated bed and could be easily removed, some others I have tried have tended to dry out and then been hard to remove from the glass.

I have found that the basic glue stick from STAPLES has been good, but something else was a good quality hairspray, (I pinched a can from my wife as I'm solar powered) this was great as it gave an even thin layer, but I needed to remove the glass to clean it off and reapply about every 15th print. But it gave a good 1st layer adhesion with a nice smooth finish.

I have etched one side of my glass and have very good success with a special form of hair spray and the rough surface of my etched plate. Let the hairspray buildup as it gets better. When print finishes, put the plate and print into your freezer. Wait 10 minutes and it falls off.

I'm telling you it's like magic and I have tried all the ideas here.
