So we have the first extruder printing beautifully, but we are interested in hooking up two Structur3D Discov3ry Paste Extruders to the printer. We are having trouble getting the second extruder port to work at all, and would really appreciate some help finding a solution. Perhaps with a software upgrade, official or unofficial?

Ask the designers of the Structur3D Discov3ry Paste Extruders? I've never heard of them before, so I cant help you with it.

Alright, I'll try their forums as well, but is there a way to get the second extruder working in general? We just want it to be able to respond in Cura when connected via USB, and to hopefully print with it eventually.

In general getting the 2th extruder (feeder motor + heater + temp sensor) to work is fairly simple, just needs to be turned on in the firmware. Here's how I did it (&links to where I got the info).

Basically get the UM2 (you have a UM2??) firmware from github, change a few parameters, and compile again using arduino software, upload the .hex file to your machine using cura.

Am I correct that you only need to hook up the extruder motor? No heater? Keep us updated on your progress please. ... like to so your results.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
