Just noticed this wire out of place

Recommended Posts

Good day to all. I have been printing rather successfully for a while now and as I was changing filament I noticed that one of the green wires (for the fans I think) has come unattached!

I am not sure what the connection is for.....I do not know how dire the situation is. Can I continue to print or do I need to fix this immediately?

Sorry for all the questions, I am more of an artist than an engineer. Can this be soldered and re-shrinkwrapped?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes , you have to fix it before you print again.

Checked on mine, assuming Ultimaker has used consistent color this is the small wire putting the 2 side fans in parallel.

Just push up the black sleeve more till you have exposed all wires/connectors. The back fan is directly connected (to 5 volt) , the two side fans are in paralel (2x 12v fans on 24v).

It will probably be hard to get the wire back in the connector , so just cut it off and solder directly will be the quickest. Make a photo before you cut anything and make sure not to change the polarity, so just connect it the way it was (write down which collor wire goes to which other color.

You'll also find a loose wire+connector not doing anything, you can just ignore that one.

skinny-kid is one of about 3 people on the forum who live near me and I've met in person.

You are welcome to come over to my house for soldering next time if your other soldering friend is busy. That goes for anyone in the forum willing to come to my house in the Boston area!

    • "Back To The Future" using Generative Design & Investment Casting
Designing for light-weight parts is becoming more important, and I’m a firm believer in the need to produce lighter weight, less over-engineered parts for the future. This is for sustainability reasons because we need to be using less raw materials and, in things like transportation, it impacts the energy usage of the product during it’s service life.
