Feeder motor stuck.

Hello! :)

As the title suggests I'm having some trouble with the feeder motor (or whatever it's called).

Whenever you try to print something or change the material, the little motor that feeds the fillament into the tube becomes spastic and starts going reverse for a split second. This also causes some of the plastic to go in reverse.

The motor then starts spinning like normal and starts pushing the material back into the machine.

This is when the motor jerks back again and the process is repeated.

Here's a video of what happnes:

How do I fix this?

I've also noted a strange smell coming from the printer. Could this be the plastic that is stuck in the nozzle getting burnt?

The feeder motor skipping like that is normal when there is to much pressure buildup, the motor it's self is fine but this means you have a problem somewhere else. This can be from a filament tangle, warn PTFE coupler or a blocked nozzle. You also can experience this when your temp is set to low for the print speed or even if you have leveled the glass to close to the nozzle.

Do the Atomic pull first as SandervG states as a blocked nozzle is the most likely cause.

When I try to reverse the plastic it doesn't wind back. Does that mean that it's stuck in the nozzle?

    Tried it and it snapped.

There is still filament going to the nozzle.

Ok, first heat up your nozzle.

Then you can remove the blue horse shoe from underneath the white clip at your feeder.

If you have done so, push down the white clip and pull out the bowden tube.

You should be able to grab the remaining filament and pull it out.

    Good luck!

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
