Hi,

I am new to the Ultimaker 2+ and have never worked with 3D printers before.

I am printing with black PLA using the following standard specs:

Print Height 0.1mm

Print Speed 50 mm/s

Supplied glue distributed on the glass surface before printing

Cura 15.04.4

Updated firmware on printer

3D software is Rhinoceros 3D

I am experiencing some very annoying fails on 80-90% of my prints.

See attached photos.

It seems that the printers orientation is suddently shifting 1-2mm during the print and then 10 layers up switching back to the original orientation. As you see in the attached photos it is an identical fail that happens with identical pieces even though they were not printed at the same time.

Similar issues are evident in other larger geometries as well.

If anyone has an idea to what could be the issue it would be highly appreciated.

    Hi,

I assume there is something up with the z-stage. Take a closer look at the long screw that moves the heated bed up/down. Maybe something got stuck in there. It might be a good idea to clean the screw and then apply a bit of the green grease that comes with the printer.

Move the heated bed up/down a few times and listen/watch for any new clues.

It seems to be the x y axis as the height of which the layer shifts is new for each new 3D model. But the same for identical models.. Thats why I initially thought it might be a software problem as it is linked to the specific geometry.

I will try to check the pulleys.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
