He's using radial fans that push the air out of the slot on one side of the fan housing. So all the air that the fan is pushing is pushed down, towards the bed.

the centrifugal fan has only one side where the blow can come out

as you can see in the picture, the blow comes straight out down in the arrow direction

Holy cow, I didn't expect such a response on my question/idea, this is great!

Gudo that's a really nice design, I don't have enough experience with the UM2+ yet to tell if the stock fans are 'good' enough or not. I'm curious of your findings with the radial fans. I was just thinking about a re-design where as much stock parts as possible are re-used to make it a cheap and easy improvement, but if better fans yield better print results your design could be a really nice upgrade!

    Hi BIKBart

Thanks to you and to the other members for giving me the opportunity to share already  some ideas, I had not plan doing that now, I wanted wait to go further before sharing. I feel less alone :)

I don't have so much experiment in 3D print, just start in this field since January of this year

It's my micro-mechanical designer experiment and passion that talk to me may be there are improvements to do..I still have to learn in the electronic and software side, Gcode etc.....

since near six months my UM2 extended not + works well after some modifications, cooling fan duct, feeder( I use Bontech feeder), hot end fan cooling.... without issues, but I print mainly with the PLA material, it's easier !

    Self-replicating machine would be great ! ;)

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
