How to change fill density part way through

I'm using Cura 15.04.6 to print a cylinder which has a threaded post at the top. Apart from the threaded post, the density is fine at 20% or so but the threaded post at the top needs to be much denser to give it strength.

Does anyone know how this could be done?

Changing the infill density during a print isn't possible as far as I know.

Printig with 100% infill the whole model is surely not the option, 'cause it's a waste of material and time.

But perhaps you can play with the "Shell Tickness" to force printing more shell-lines so there isn't any need for an infill in the smaller part?

@mattgriffin was working on something that would have the potential to do this.

It was actually quite exciting to see what he was doing in this respect.

Pretty soon. We're already in feature freeze right now.

    by hand:

create two gcode files with different infill and then combine them by deleting the second part of one file at the layer height you wish and adding the second part of the other file.

That could work, but Cura continually extrudes the filament across layers, it does not reset the extruder position at the start of each layer (like some other nameless slicers).

You would need to use G92 Exxx.xxxx gcode to set the extruder position to same value as the first G1/G0 E value used in the second gcode file. Otherwise you'll probably get meters of filament ejected as it tries to 'catch-up' to the second gcode silced at a higher infill rate.

Great! So closed beta already planned or will it be a direct release without closed/open beta?
