Next to our successful Ultimaker 2 family, another dynasty will be added shortly. Just a few more days until we can really get to know it, but we figured we could already start showing what it can do. In the next few days I will update this thread with some new shots and video's that reveal something.

We feel this machine is a great fit for the industries where there is a need to print even more complex things than what was ever possible before. The next era of 3D printing is about to land, make sure you have a front row seat :)

If you have watched and inspected our video's closely, but you are still eager for more, join us while we make a trip down to memory-lane. See what the last 5 years have done for Ultimaker.

'It all started with a RepRap project that served as a true inspiration for many creative thinkers, among them 3 fellas with a bright future ahead of them...'

    OMG #UM3SLAconfirmed!

No that looks like a very nice PLA print. I wonder though, with some post, couldn't you get around with minimal support, instead of dual?

Well that print clearly shows skills... Check the material samples for PLA/ABS/CPE

    https://ultimaker.com/en/products/materials/pla

Well actually, that model is printed with single extrusion.

As you can see here, @Illuminarti did it in 2013 already. We used custom supports for easy removal.

And how you plan to remove the supports? With a nano robot that goes inside and eats the supports? :D

Patience. A shit load of it :PAnd custom designed/printed pliers to fit inside.

I'd love to see a picture of the printed version with support.

Currently we are a bit busy :p I am pretty sure we don't have it lying around but perhaps one of my colleagues still has the g-code somewhere. Somewhere after the 18th I'll ask around ;)

I was thinking about the new dual printing,

would this make it possible to print faster, using a 0.4mm together with a 0.8mm nozzle,

print fine detail for the outer surface and big fill on the inside ?

That's what I did with the Rocktopus I posted in the UM3 release date topic. 0.8 mm black, 0.4 orange. But printing time for dual extrusion parts will often be dominated by the number of tool changes and the necessary time for reheating, priming or wiping.

i was looking at the videos of the new ultimaker, and i payed attention and how the head is moving and how the build plate goes up and down, very often, it remembered me a dual extrusion that i saw here in the forum, (sorry i forgot the name of who was testing and experimenting with it) it had two printheads, one parked on one corner, so the printer prints one colour, then homes the head and pick the other one and print withthe other colour... or smth like that, somehow remembered me to that post.

That would be foehnsturm that posted just before you :) He has polished that design/approach quite a bit and he's getting excellent results from it.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
