Are there negative consequences, when I stop heating the buildplate after a while?

Hello,

i´m printing a large object on my Ultimaker 2+. The Object has now the height of 100mm. This results, that the heat from the buildplate doesn´t reaches anymore the top layer of the object. So does it has any negativ effect, if i would now shut down the heating of the buildplate to save energy?

Thank you very much,

Nils

Bed heat has mainly the function of keeping the part 'stick' so turning it off might unstick the print. To keep the heat, for abs and materials that need a more stable temperature, make a door (youmagine has toons of examples). And, welcome to the forum :)

If you print on blue tape, the print might stay stuck to the plate. Might, not sure. If you print PLA on bare glass, it will come loose when you stop heating the build plate.

If you use my "salt method" (=gently wipe the glass plate with salt water prior to printing PLA) then the print will stick like glue when the plate is hot: 60°C. But there will be absolutely no bonding at all when the plate is at room temp.
