UMO Extruder Drive Upgrade

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited) · UMO Extruder Drive Upgrade

I own an UMO that I purchased pre-owned and noticed it came with extra parts for the extruder driver.  I realized that Ultimaker once sold an UMO Extruder Drive Upgrade kit, which they no longer sell.

I have dual extrusion and noticed that on extruder 1 most of the parts are wood, yet extruder 2 has more plastic parts.

Is there a way to tell if my Extruder Drive is stock versus having the UMO Extruder Drive Upgrade Kit installed?

They are both 'upgraded', the one being a bit newer than the other...

The old one had no wheel in it, it was a piece of nylon (or POM or something like that) pushing the filament on the gear.

Which one of my extruders has the more 'updated' drive, Extruder 1 or Extruder 2?

Is there a performance difference between the drives in my Extruder 1 and Extruder 2?

I have been having issues with underextrusion at times and would prefer to use the one that gives me optimal performance as my primary extruder.

Extruder 2 (with the plastic parts) is the most recent.

But they are both based on the same principle, so it should not matter in term of performance.

You need to check that the wheel inside is in good shape, if not replace it by a bearing (see this post)

Note that extrusion problems are more often cause by a damaged Teflon coupler rather than issues with the extruder itself

Re the wheel, I have perfect prints with the original wooden main gear...

    I wouldn't go that path...
