Posted · 1,75mm Filament?

Hi,

I'm still not getting the issue why so many other printers go to 1,75mm filament - but anyways. Now i'm just curious if someone already tried 1,75 on the UM3. Shouldn't it just work out of the box due to the easily switchable bowden tube?

Best regards,

Alexander

Yes but you would loose full control iver retractions, it can break (it does at fast speed) and isn't reliable.

Changing the feeder helps. Probably in the future someone will release a 1.75 core, but most probably not ultimaker.

Okay, thank you very much for sharing your experience! :)

I've ordered a super cheap china printer for printing crap parts like clips etc. to have my UM3 baby free for the "real stuff" that need its precision and neat tricks ;) This one just feeds 1,75. I'll see if my filament collection will get fragmented but at the moment I think I will just print one spool in 1,75 and don't share them between crap and grail ;)

I wish there was a way to print with the 1.75mm as well. I had another printer before the U3 and it took 1.75mm. I have way more than I would want to "give away" (about 40 spools?). I have to replace some things on previous printer to get it working again, it just seemed with that previous one I had had such "high hopes" to no avail.  The U3 prints beautifully, just wish I could use the 1.75mm for both using up what I already have and my local Microcenter sells 3mm in about 5 colors.
