Hi all, i'm installed an e3d v6 on my UM2.

Now i must to do the PidTune, because the heater cartridge is to 40W. But i've so much problem;

If I connect the printer to my macbook with pronterface, I send the M303 command after a few second pronterface say me:

 >>> M303SENDING:M303PID Autotune startPID Autotune failed! Temperature too high

What can I do?

Tkanks a lot ;)

Are you doing this with warm hot-end?

Marlin gives this message when you overshoot the target temperature by 20°C. Since you don't specify a target temp it is 150°C by default so if you start with a hot-end warmer than 170°C it will abort.

Anyway, you should do PID tuning at the temperature you usually use -- if you typically print at 215°C, use:

M303 S215

But if I set 215, the temperature go up very very fast, and exceeds the value of 50-70° and the process is stopped..

Set manually temp to 200C and wait for your hotend to calm down. Then execute a PID to 210C. Since is 10C near, it shouldn't go 50C+ target and should guve you a decent PID value.

10° there are too much, the temperature go up to 30°..

I try with 210° and 213° for the PID

Ok, if i set manually the temperature at 210° and than I try to do the pidtune with 213 the temperature go up to 250-260° in 1-2 seconds..

That is very weird, there is no way you can gain 40°C in 1 second...

I would suspect something wrong with the sensor, or the cartridge generating interference...

Is this the 'official' E3D upgrade kit for UM2?

Maybe the sensor is touching the heater at some point?

@amedee

No, there is only original e3d :)

Probablty i have found the problem: the heter cartridge is 12V, but UM work with 24V..

Right?

Oh indeed. Not good to overdrive a heater with double its power. Also slightly dangerous.

Yes that's why I was asking if you bought the E3D UM2 upgrade kit as opposed to buying just the hot end, as in the first case they would have sent 24v automatically...

Happy you found the issue.
