You are not the first to be confused by the text on the screen. The exact text is:

Quote

Rotate the button to move the build plate until it's 1 mm away from the PrintCore.

Here we want the user to use the multi-function button in front of the printer. This text is only shown for the rear position. We should've used a more clear wording here to differentiate between the multi-function wheel and the build plate screws.

For the other two positions the text is:

Quote

Turn the right build plate screw until it's 1 mm away from the PrintCore.

Here you are supposed to use the build plate screws.

A few remarks on the procedure:

- There is a flaw, when executing this procedure multiple times, the buildplate will be set higher and higher. Eventually the buildplate will reach its maximum on the thumb screws. Problem is that at this setting the Active Leveling will fail because of wrong spring tension in the bed. Before starting the leveling procedure you should ensure the build plate screws are not at either maximum (14mm would be the perfect distance, see the earlier mentioned link for a tool).

- The 1mm in the first calibration round is just a guide line and not exact. I myself always start with the calibration card, and then the second round is just for verification.

    • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

      This update is for...
      All UltiMaker S series
      New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
