I have one. It is not bad. Not great. It is a good value. I would say it depends on the size of your scan target and the detail needed.

Just know that in my research, I found that to get an appreciable amount of difference in quality required a jump in price of more than 5 times the cost. That was a year ago, and tech does evolve. To get a real difference, you are looking at a starting investment of about 9K USD. That would be the Artec Evo Light.

Also know that the scanner has trouble with scanning anything below a certain darkness. Tried scanning some of my students and those with very dark hair, it would not pick up at all. And you also need to have good, ambient illumination.

I have output to Cura and made prints and that was painless and it captures in a 1:1 scale ratio. But color scans are limited to the lower resolution it has in capturing the texture maps to be applied. But, not an issue if you are scanning for modeling only.

So, scan resolution and ability to scan dark colors are the biggest thing you have to overcome.

But, for what my goals are, I am happy with it and can always paint or powder a surface to overcome the dark color scan issue.

Thank you, that was what I was going to use it for. I'm guessing a reasonable lighting setup will produce acceptable results for school use.

For school use, your student, or co-students, will have a blast. And, for school use, it will be perfect as it has a good design for ease of use.

My only complaint (and you really have to spend megabucks to overcome this) is that you need to tote a laptop when scanning. There are some good youtube videos on operation. But with the newer Sense 2 it is easier to work.

Just FYI: I have a Sense 2 scanner and a powerhouse asus G751JT laptop, with a huge charger and battery. I'm emphisising that this isn't a low power consumption laptop!

Yet, Sense 2 keeps getting disconnected from it. I bought 3 different USB cables, each more expensive than the other, only to realize that it's the laptops fault! I thought, my left USB ports have data connection issues, it's a known hardware defect, all models to my knowledge have it, so maybe the ones on the right might have other issues (the scanner was plugged in to the ones on the right). I plugged it into a PC and voila, it worked flawlessly, with any of my 3 cables. So, if it doesn't work on your laptop, check it in a PC first, before sending it back in warranty

No, unfortunately, that was too much for my budget. I would like to be able to, but then I would just jump to one of their really high-end scanners for a variety of reasons.

And, yup, that was a typo on my part....thank you for the correction. :)
