Firmware change log?

I updated the firmware on U3 (3.6.3.20170406 stable), and I was curious what changes there were in this version. I see a change log for Cura here

https://ultimaker.com/en/products/cura-software/release-notes

But for firmware, I only found this post for an older version

https://ultimaker.com/en/blog/35639-ultimaker-3-firmware-update-whats-new-in-version-35

Is there a site for a Firmware Change Log or Release Notes?

-

Also, based on the version name, I'd guess that the firmware has been out since April 6th, but I didn't get a notification that there was an update....I was just playing with the settings and checked for an update. Shouldn't we get a notification of a firmware update?

Thanks, it is certainly important! Currently we are always sharing the release notes of firmware in our blog under news: https://ultimaker.com/en/tag/news

You can see among others the release notes of 3.7 in there.

Would you have expected them else where? Please let us know and we can see how we can improve our communications :)

Thanks for the response. The blog entry is nice to highlight updates, but not a dependable place to put formal change logs.

For example, I see there is a preview/unstable firmware available. What specifically is different with it? Any known bugs?

Updated my firmware to the latest stable also, cant find a version specific log.

Would be very nice to have for reference.

Yes, I would have expected the firmware release notes in a dedicated page like the Cura release notes: https://ultimaker.com/en/products/cura-software/release-notes

From the "What to expect in 3.7" firmware blog entry:

Firmware notification. Whenever a new stable firmware becomes available, users will receive a notification. And after each firmware update, you’ll be notified which version you’ve just installed.

Thanks. This is what I asked for in the second question of my original post.

Reviving this topic: Ultimaker 3 firmware 4.3.3.20180529 just released. This is good. I can't find any indication of what it does. This is bad. ?

And as for "Where would I ideally expect to find this?": Cura itself now has a Changelog extension that shows release notes for Cura itself. If I have, say, an Ultimaker 3 configured as a printer, I would ideally expect Ultimaker 3 firmware announcements and release notes to appear in the Changelog extension too.

Hi, usually you'll be able to find the release notes in the blog section. This time I believe the improvement was relatively small so no special blogpost was dedicated to it. The most important thing that was added was the Tough PLA profile for the Ultimaker 3 series ?

It's a good idea the changelog extension, we're thinking about it. But at the moment it only shares Cura changelogs. Hope this helps!

    @SandervG

So where can I find the UM2+ release notes? Now not even the blog seems to be available any more.

I am not sure if there were ever separate release notes for the UM2+ firmware, it was always bundled with Cura. But the latest UM2+ firmware is 6 or 7 years old, so you can only check the very old Cura versions from 2015/2016 if you find something there.

Or check the commit messages on GitHub https://github.com/Ultimaker/Ultimaker2Marlin

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
