When starting Cura 2.6 it takes a looooong time when Cura reaches the "Loading Machines" stage. Given I only use one machine, is there a way to reduce the number of machines that are loaded?

You can remove all machines that you don't need from the resources file. Depending on your operating system this might be something that's easy or quite hard.

You need to remove *.def.json files. Take care to never ever delete the fdmprinter.def.json.

    If you have a UM3, you need to keep the fdmprinter.def.json, ultimaker.def.json & ultimaker3.def.json

    I have found that sometimes I seem to get a UM3E #1, #2, #3, etc.

I have not found a pattern that does this or figured out why, but I just keep deleting them when I notice them. But, I am doing that in the program up top in the black band in the top right of the interface.

Indeed Cura 2.6 needs more time to load and to switch profiles than 2.5. We are still far from where we were with 2.4 but it doesn't go in a nice direction.
