Creating install file for Cura with custom printer settings?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited) · Creating install file for Cura with custom printer settings?

I work for a University Library and we have heavily modified printers that require custom settings for each of the machines in the machine settings, and I'd like to distribute the students copies of Cura with the machine settings preconfigured.

Is this possible? I have experience building programs from source but I'm not sure how I'd make an executable (or DMG for Mac users) that will install cura and add the files that the students will need.

Should I just make a script that runs the regular installer and moves the machine settings files to the install location, or can I bundle them within the cura installer?

Any help is appreciated,

(Cura 15.04 would be great as well)

If you're feeling up to it, you can have a look at our Cura-build repository. But this is not for the faint of heart. Quite a bit of experience is needed to get that running properly.

This also means that for every software update, you would also need to make new packages.

If you don't feel like that, putting them in the local folders is the best option. Those are also upgraded if a newer version is installed. An easy way to install a local machine on multiple computers is to use project files.

A final option is to make a pull request that contains the machine that you have as a definition. The next Cura release will then have that machine and others can also benefit from it.
