Running Cura 2.7.0, and after updating my Mac to MacOS 10.13 (High Sierra), fonts seem randomly garbled in the Print Setup menu, input fields and in the tooltip dialogs.

It is a long shot but could you try:

Go to Applications > Font Book and doing File > Restore Standard Fonts and restarting.

You could also try to clean the font cache:

    sudo atsutil databases -remove

Thanks for your suggestions; tried both, but none helps.

I made a fix for this issue and we are now testing it. It is on time for our 3.0 release (17 Oct).

Will this be Cura 2 v3.0 or Cura 3.0 or Cura 3 v1.0?

I remember back when Cura 2.0 came out the reason for the version reset was that it was 'Cura 2' whereas Cura 15.x was 'Cura 1' or Original Cura.

So is Cura 3 a whole new rewrite, like Cura 2 was, or a progression of versions?

What happens when you run into the same version numbers as with Original Cura (in 9 years)?

Maybe call it something different so you don't confuse simple minds like mine with these new old version numbers: CurAtion, perhaps :p

Cura 3.0 is just a progression of Cura 2.x.

Great to hear the 2.7 High Sierra font issue will be addressed in an future update. Would it also be possible to enable fullscreen support on MacOS for Cura? v2.7 doesn't seem to support fullscreen.

Sorry guys, after trying out the Beta again and loading an .stl file it turns out that the font distortion is still there, please see attached image.

It seems to be somehow random, some characters are ok, some others are not. Sometimes cura starts with fine characters and you have to load a print file or change to "Monitor" before the distortions start.

    (Sorry for the confusion)

Same problem here. All texts that are data (temp, speed, etc) shows weird and I can’t see any number. Most of the time shows as weird fonts beta 3.0 downloaded yesterday. High Sierra

Great, please ensure that the new beta includes the latest engine code as we squashed a bug in the wall ordering optimization code. Thanks.

Appears to be fixed in Beta 3.01, but it is still a really poor choice of fonts used in the data boxes.

The font used is single-pixel wide, and not easy to read on today's large displays.

Any chance of changing the font to something more legible?

We are looking into that, but it won't make it in 3.0

I have made a PR here:

    https://github.com/Ultimaker/Cura/pull/2603

The text input boxes actually use the same font, but a different font renderer (qt vs native). The PR makes it so that the same font renderer is used throughout (native). Hopefully it can still be included.

Just installed Cura 3.03, and the font issue is much better - I did notice this one message box on startup that is slightly garbled (much improved from what was happening in v2.7 though)ss_cura3_garbeld.png

    Howdy,

Capitan 10.11 with the NIVIDA Quadro 4000 graphics board also produces garbled alpha. Returning to the OS driver fixes it.

I improved this but unfortunately it will be in Ultimaker Cura 3.1

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
