Heating the plate quicker?

Is there any way to speed up the build plate heating phase? Any addons or replacement parts?

It's ok for PLA and other materials around that temp, but I've just waited longer for the plate to warm up than it's going to take to print a small part in PC.

Thanks.

For UM2 I use tinkergnomes firmware which has a preheat feature which I start as soon as I turn the printer on.

For UM3 I select preheat as soon as I load Cura.

I know this isn't the biggest help but it does reduce the time a bit.

Having the front door does help with stopping cold air slowing it down so it's only really the available accessory from UM or you could find a full enclosure kit.

Some people put towels on the heat bed which helps but only when preheating or it may crash.

Another super efficient option is to buy a small amount of 1" 1300°C ceramic fiber. Ebay has it at inexpensive prices. Cut the fiber to your build-plate size and place on your plate. You can play a welding torch on the fiber upper surface while resting it on your hand. The fiber's low thermal mass stops heat instantly. Should heat the build-plate very fast.

    some good tips above :)

@Clancey, could you fill your profile with the printer model that you have? For addons or replacement parts it will help. Depending which heater you have you can replace for a higher voltage one, it will warm up quicly. Community can point you a trustfull dealer.

Edit: Ooops, for build plate I don't know if we can change heater, for the heated block I have sure that we can.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
