Hehe, but the restroom is super cool. It has even active ventilation that I can switch on when a print starts. Only drawback is that I can not reach behind the printer easily.

I recently cleaned my happy corner, so here it is:

    My Happy Corner

It does not get more clean or organized than that.

My wife seems to have no problem with that luckily

i actually have a little problem....

I live in a one room apartment.... I have no where else to put my ultimaker2.

During the day... printing is no problem but... now the nights are getting colder and I have to close up a little my one window.... i am starting to get really bad headaches from the fumes.... really storming headaches that last for hours the next day...

this is a big problem.... I want to print but not kill myself.... ?

    any ideas ?

    Ian

Yes, stop printing during the night. Reaally, health is the most important thing there is.

I have it printing on my desk all the time at work, so do my colleagues. I have had it in my previous room (at house) too, never had any head aches.

I am not claiming that you are overreacting or that the fumes are not the root, but maybe it is unrelated?

    Don't know.. but I don't experience that.

Have you stopped or increased your amount of coffee a day? ;)

would you call it over reacting Sander?... when I am waking up beside my ultimaker 2 now... and feeling sick and needing two powerful headache tablets to be half ready for work... this is now only the last few days since I am printing at nights in my small room.

Do you actually state 100 percent that all materials and liquids withing the ultimaker construction do not emit any harmful gases?

Is that actually stated by ultimaker officially ?.. if so then I must be just losing it....

but back to the question... has ultimaker run tests on the chemical output or gas output of plastic fumes or oils or sealants in confined areas ? Is it proven safe ?

ColorFabb did some exstensive testing, of which the results are about to be released next week. Though I've heard from multiple sources that ABS is not the best for an overnight print. We'll see what the research ColorFabb did points to.

I've been printing PLA nonstop in my student room, which is not really ventilated that well tbh.

Urgh, headaches, they are the worst. My sympathies. Took me ages to figure out what caused mine and how to deal with them.

Are you printing PLA or ABS? ABS fumes are known to cause headaches and nausea as stated on the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), e.g. http://www.plasticsmadesimple.com/DataSheets/ABS_MSDS_GP.pdf.You should only ever print ABS in a well-ventilated room. PLA fumes seem to be harmless as long as you only melt, not burn PLA.

I don't think the Ultimaker itself is causing the headaches. I think the side panels are made of PMMA which doesn't emit harmful fumes (and IIRC smells like gummy bears when melted). The other parts are so small that I'd rather look for other culprits first.

Anyway, I'd stop printing for a while, keep your window closed at night and see if your headaches disappear. But keep in mind that any number of things in your room could cause these headaches, e.g. any newly-bought furniture (sofa/mattress a primary suspect), your new gigantic TV screen, paint on the wall, chemicals in the carpet, fire-retardant chemicals in the curtains, washing powder fragrances, maybe even some kind of pesticide used before you moved in.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
