Who can print 6 Fisher-price-explorer-wheels for me? I can send the original by post, or make it a 3D solid in .DWG format.

    I do live in Belgium.

Scrapping another Explorer might be a pragmatic solution.

However, as most of these old timers have worn out wheels, I would prefer a set of printed new ones.

I do not know whether it is economically realistic.

One wheel has 10 cm diameter, and weighs aprox. 52 gram.

-What is the direct cost of printing one wheel?

-How much time do you spent on processing the print file?

I guess if this works out, you'll easily sell tens of sets online, as there are many vintage fans out there.

Haha, I'm not looking for another job, just trying to help you out, if I can. After all, this seems to be a community:-D

    Let me guess:

    direct costs for one wheel:

    - 5 Eurocents/gram PLA = Euro 2,60 for the plastic pro wheel.

    - Average printing time / gram = 1,7minutes > 52 x 1,7=88 minutes

    - power consumption 120 Watt x 5280 sec = 633.600 Joules / 3.600.000 = 0,176 kWh x Euro 0,23 = Euro 0,041 pro wheel:-)

    - Processing time 6 x 88min = 8,8 hours labor for the yellow one. Takes a little bit poking around changing, testing and leveling, so say 9 - 10 hours. That's approx. 16 Euro's whit out making any profit from it. That is to say: my parameters for such a project would be:

    wall thickness 1.6mm

    bottom and top 1,6mm

    fill density 100%

With these I sliced some project with Cura and used the outcome for the 52 grams you came with.

I guess package posting anywhere in Belgium is about 12 euros. Economically? I don't know, environmentally? I should say Yes, but the whole idea of promoting the Ultimakers is to send the file for nothing and get the print locally...so that would even be better. One of the guys at my personal masterclass lives in Belgium, maybe it is your neighbor?-)

Second option is to print one negative mould for half a wheel. You spray wax, oil or any other loosing fluid inside the mold and put black 2K poly or even better, 2K epoxy resin with some sort of reinforcing material inside the mold. You'll need 12 pieces, glue them together with the same resin, and voila! Every time it brakes again, you can reuse the mold, and being carefully you can repeat this dozens of times. And just paying anything from 1 euro pro wheel.

Maybe I can help you with the wheels.

If you can send me the 3D file (split up in wheel and tire), I can give you a price for it.

I'm living in the southern of the Netherlands, so sending it to you won't be a big issue.

    Regards,

    Harold Reedijk

    Willem

    Dag Bert_N,

    Hello,

I have the same problem with the wheels, and I would be very interested in getting the 3D files.

If you still have them, could you send them to me?

    Thank you!

    Emmanuel

    Hi,

    Happy to read this topic.

I live in Belgium, Antwerp and looking for 1 new wheel for the Fisher price explorer.

Can someone make me one in 3d printing and what's the price or refer me to a local tech and handyman who can do the installation as well ;-)

    Thank you!

@DidierKlein? If Didier doesn't want to help I would go to 3dhubs.com. They can refer you to someone local in Antwerp. You need two things - someone to create the cad model which is the expensive part. And then the printing is cheap and easy.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
