we're expecting our first batch of PET in the next few days (the stuff plastic bottles are made of). Supposedly super strong and crystal clear.

Has anyone printed with this stuff yet ? How strong & how clear is it (how clear can it be printing in layers anyway ?) ?

Cannot find much info on this yet.

No experiences with PET so far, but I'm always looking for printing materials that give very clear parts. PLA and PC are good but not perfect, so PET may be a better and even cheaper alternative.

And BendLay is cheaper than Polycarbonate!

Does anyone have any experience with Bendlay or Laybrick yet? I've just ordered myself a roll of each. Laybrick sounds particularly interesting... I need to do my traditional Yoda bust first (I have a yoda printed in every filament that I have... My 'hello world' print). Then I want to try printing high voltage insulators with the laybrick for tesla coil use.

    Cheers,

    Troy.

I'll get samples of LayBrick and BendLay filament in a few days and will drive some test prints and also reporting the results then of course.

Any update on the BendLay filament?

I need something transparent for an RGB-LED project, this seems very good on (e-)paper...

Printing with some clear PETG now @ 265°, no fan. Sticks well to an MDF print bed. Clarity isn't perfect, but it looks good overall. Even at this temp, though, layer adhesion isn't great.

I tried some PET from MakerGeeks a couple weeks ago.

It was a bit tricky...layer lamination issues, but that should just be fiddling with the settings.

    (maybe overextrude a bit?)

Also, I have the U2, and the PET filament is quite soft. The extruder motor grinds a bit hard on it, so it was chewing at the filament too much.

It's very strong! I got enough printed to have a piece to fiddle with.

I've had much better luck with Nylon. (will write more in another post)

Also I hear that you can get the Taulman T-glase to be more transparent if you get the settings right

    (currently on backorder)

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
