z-hop and retraction stringy

so right now i have travel settings in cura 3.2.1: z hop when retracted check, z hop only over printed parts check, z hop height 1mm.  i have material setting: enable retraction check, retraction distance 5mm, speed 40mm/s, retraction minimum travel 0.8mm

 

i get little string or tails that stick up when the nozzle moves in the z-axis during the hop.

 

it seems like there might not be anything i can do about this.  it's going to create the little tails no matter what huh? that's the nature of it?  the good thing about what i have set is that the nozzle won't hit the infill as it moves over the print.  any thoughts? or is there another setting i should be looking at?
