Access control

Hi I'm building something to control the access to the printer so I replaced the safety jumpers with a switch.

No if you break the connection i get a nice warning:

y4mW2ZG7jxV8bFCcLN5Pct6KTzdT6z-ezTLc3IsO

But if you restore the connection the warning doesn't go away... I have to restart... :-S I always thought it was a kind of a optional emergency button, but if you unrelease the button you should be able to just continue, no?

And it would also be nice to still have access to the display api, now it returns a 405 saying the printer is busy. It would be nice to overrule that message with one that makes more sense in this case something like this:

y4mnbPJwzYGqiB71aTmHAWrUZiwQYwNc0B8UKq3G

Any suggestions?

Regards,

David

It's fine the way it is. Because in case of a fatal error, the machine stops and a cold start is forced. This ensures that the machine is then ready for operation again in a defined state.

As a possible application of the two breakers I see, for example, a trigger for emergency stop or stop by a collision sensor.

    Hi Mnis,

You're right if the machine is actually moving. But if it's not doing anything I don't see a reason why it needs a restart. Now there are two safety jumpers (at least on my ultimaker 3, but I think the pcb hasn't change much over the 2 version). There's no need for 2 of those (if you need more emergency stops you could put them in serie). So if one would be a hard stop, the other could be a soft one (an actual pause pin). That would make it easy to add an end of filament warning system for example.

    Regards,

    David

    You are right too ?

But I could imagine that the status of both ports can be detected separately. It may not have been considered in the firmware so far. Then more than one port would be very useful I think. For example, a machine enhanced with a laser cutter attachment could then detect the opening of the housing and pause until the housing is closed again. Another port then detects, for example, the operation of emergency stop.

Anyway ... At this point I have to give up unfortunately. You need more information about the UM2 / UM3 hardware internals. And then definitely a custom firmware. But here in the forum there are certainly a few specialists on this topic, who will be happy to help you, I think ?

And yes, safety jumper is the appropriate term for it. But I was not active here for a long time and currently do not know if you need the help of an admin to change the thread title.
    Greetings back ?

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
