Does the 2+ come with smoothers already installed from UM ?, if not are they needed ?, they seem to be a popular printer on other printers but not heard about them on UM printers

Do you mean to.o surface smoothing?

If yes, Ultimaker Cura has an ironing feature. I have not used it but have heard from others that it works fine.

Not having a 2+ I can only assume that the feature will work with it.

No the UM don't have it incl. UM3, not sure about S5.

There is a thread somewhere here on the forum with a long discussion about it. Some have implemented it and had success but there are some side effects as far as I can remember.

I don't think so, but the smoothers are cheap and plug easily between the existing connections, so you could give it a try and find out yourself.

But try to find the thread here, there are a lot of additional informations if you really want to do it.

I can remember that people were first happy, the surface was better but not completely. But then someone posted about a negative side effect but can't remember what it was.

they are a popular mode on some printers, so not sure if the UM can benefit from them

    Thank you for the information

    Take care

TL Smoothers were made for TI drivers. They have a voltage and current sense timing profile that makes the motor run rougher than it should. TL Smoother does help slightly with the Allegro 49xx drivers too, but it wasn’t intentional. Ultimaker main boards for UM2 & UM2+ use the Allegro drivers. It’s worth noting that these mainboards use a less than optimal decay mode setting, which do show as a slight moiré on some curves. Allegro’s decay mode moiré is not nearly as bad as the ‘salmon skin’ TI drivers would show though.
