Supports don't touch model

Hi all

 

I'm a newbie to 3d printing and while i've had a few successful abeit simple (minimal supports) prints i've come to find that for reason i can't quite get cura to generate supports that touch the model, some supports do touch however they're few and far between, i've watched a few videos and messed around with rotation but it doesn't seem to want to connect the supports, can anyone lend a helping hand please.

 

some details, I have a CS10S Pro using cura 4.0.0 I haven't added any extentions (not sure how or what i need) and my printer can print overhangs quite nicely (found that out when i tried a model and the floating supports floated onto the model, the model is https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3501926 with a slight modification to the arm for posing.
