Lifting build when using adaptive layers

Hi, I generally like raising incredibly small, detailed prints off the bed to be printed entirely on the supports but this doesn't seem to be an option when using adaptive layers. When I hit slice it slices nothing and gives me an empty file. Any solutions for this, or perhaps reasons that you can't use adaptive layers while printing off the bed?
