RIT dyes and nylon

Wondering if any of you have used RIT dyes to colour your nylon models. Did you use the powder or liquid variant? Results?

I use the European stuff, Dylon. The powder works best, heated up just below boiling. Thin printed parts just need dipping, count to ten.... Just check by rinsing and see how it looks.

The sls printed nylon, which is thicker, needs from 10 minutes to 30 minutes, depending on the color.

I have used both Rit powder based and pre-made liquid based.

I also have used the food coloring liquid dye most grocery stores have.

Use dye and cup or two of water. Some people say adding vinegar helps.

My best results came from gently heating the dye. I put the dye jars in

a pot with water and heated the pot on the stove until the water in the pot

was hot but not boiling. Leave the model in the dye longer to darken.

Only works on Nylon for me.

If you add a little acetone you can "dye" ABS. Heat not needed.

Thanks for your help on that one - I see I can get Dylon too on Amazon so I will need to experiment. Yup I saw Youtube video of a guy dyeing some ABS; personally I would have bought a coloured reel!
