Problem with CURA slicing extra layers filling up empty space

The tittle says it all. For some reason the slicing process makes additional layers within emtpy space, making some sort of spaghetti 'glitch'. In the first pic, it's another model, in which happened the same but I wasn't present at the moment it happened so I didn't noticed. In the second pic you can see the 'spaghetti glitch' that has been taken out during print; ninja style.

First I thought it was an export/import problem. I couldn't visualize the processing of layers in CURA, I don't know why. but it did showed this filled gap. And in Repetier Host I could find which layers where being filled up with this problem (layers 103~108).

I'm attaching the file.

Any idea why this is happening? Thanks in advance.

Pic of the layer 108, where it filled the empty part with the spaghetti.

Pic of the layer 381, where it should print a new 'step'; it started printing it from the center so instead of starting from the proper layer it printed in the air, so printing failed.

Any ideas why this is happening? This is my first printer and I'm literally an one week user.

Without seeing the model, I can only speculate. I suspect the model has some internal geometry that makes it think the center area is solid on those layers. Try viewing the preview in “X-ray mode”. Any red is bad.

The spaghetti looks like you might expect with such a large span attempting to print without support. Bridging only works so far.

I'm using the last version available on the site, so I don't know if the x-ray is still on this version but it does still shows red areas, although after slicing it now shows somewhere else that there's some internal geometry?

I'll try adding some supports to it, I'm testing smaller models now.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
