[Help with support structure] Cura Settings

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I recently got a Ultimaker S5 and I'm struggeling with the support structure settings.

I use Ultimaker Tough PLA along with Ultimaker PVA.

I'm using Ultimaker Cura 4.4 in case that is of importance

Whenever I use support structure cura also adds supports where I don't think they are necessary.

For example I printed a circle and cura added support structure all around the circle even though

there isn't a single layer printed on that support structure.

This takes a lot of time and also wastes a lot of material.

Is there a way to only build support on overhangs?

Thanks a lot for your help in advance!

A picture of what it looks like would be helpful in figuring out what's going on. If I were to guess I would say that it is supporting something on the inside of the circle? In that case it can be "Support  horizontal expansion" that is causing the support to poke through to the other side of the circle.

  • Thanks 1

Hi Robert,

thanks a lot for answering so quickly.

The option I was looking for was "horizontal expansion" as you mentioned.

Thanks a lot!

This helps me to save a lot of time and support structure!
