Cura Improvement Suggestion - Cancel a calculation

I have a suggestion for an improvement for Cura. Just a small thing.

From time to time, I use the Arrange Models functionality in Cura. And usually that works fine. But sometimes I enter an endless pit of calculation if I am doing a large scale overview of what a long term print would cost me to print. And the only way to cancel a started location calculation is to shut down the program.

I would think it extremely convenient to have a cancel calculation function that simply stops calculation and goes back to the previous state, something like Ctrl+Z.

Clearly I'm not a programmer, so maybe there's a good reason this can't be done. But I was bored while Cura is calculating and thought I would post the suggestion just in case it would be useful :D

Thanks for the endorsement of my plugin, but it will not do anything for @Anarasha's case. It will only let you quickly toggle the automatic slicing on or off.

The Cura developers have hinted on more than one occasion that the arrange models functionality is high on the list of things to rework/improve. Let's hope that it becomes a LOT faster, so that canceling is not even necessary. But having a cancel button there would be better.

Ups, you are right. Seems that I somehow wasn't focus by reading this or maybe thought that stopping automatic slicing will at least free up some resources Cura need to make this calculations faster.

Thanks for your suggestion - even though it missed the mark, I appreciate the desire and attempt to help me :D

I am a huge fan of your plugins in general - thank you for those :D And I'm happy to hear they are planning on reworking that functionality. For small models I quite enjoy it, but I was doing a full size prop bow in 8 parts, that was.... frustrating.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.

      • Ultimaker Cura 5.6 stable released
Cura now supports Method series printers!

A year after the merger of Ultimaker and MakerBotQQ, we have unlocked the ability for users of our Method series printers to slice files using UltiMaker Cura. As of this release, users can find profiles for our Method and Method XL printers, as well as material profiles for ABS-R, ABS-CF, and RapidRinse. Meaning it’s now possible to use either Cura or the existing cloud-slicing software CloudPrint when printing with these printers or materials
