S3 Nozzle Height Error

Recommended Posts

Posted · S3 Nozzle Height Error

Hi Everyone,

I am using a loaned Ultimaker S3 to print PPE and I am getting increasingly frustrated with it. I am usually able to troubleshoot my own issues, but I just cannot seem to get the S3 printing consistently. About 50% of the time when I start a print I get the following error: "Difference between detected height of both print cores exceeds realistic values". I try again and it usually succeeds on the second or third attempt. I have tried everything I can possibly think of to fix this, but I still consistently get the error. What I have tried:

 - Manually leveling the bed 10-15 times over the past three weeks

 - Tightening the bed screws most of the way and manually leveling (as per a forum post I found the other day)

 - Replacing a print core

 - Cleaning both print cores multiple times

 - Cleaning the print bed 10+ times, even flipping it over to have a pristine print surface

I have nine other printers running (all budget printers in the ~£300 price range) and none of them have any problems. I have read online that it is possible to turn off auto-bed-leveing in the S3, but I do not see the option anywhere (I have gone through every single nested menu several times).

Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

It's not possible to turn off the bed leveling on the S3; the UM3/UM3X can turn it off, but not the S5 or S3.

Is your lifting switch functioning properly? If it's missing the lift switch and the wrong Print Core is down you could get active leveling errors.

What about the red and white cable inside the printhead, seated in the metal bracket at the bottom of the printhead? If those cables are unseated your active leveling will fail.
