S5 change filament mid print

Hello Sirs,

Could you help with the steps changing filament mid print please?

Can I leave run out the filament completely?

Or just pause the print before the end of filament goes to the feeder and change like normal?

Should be exactly the same the new filament like the old one?
Can it be different color?
Can it be different material? (fe.: tough pla - pla)

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hi there,

If you have the material flow detection enable on the S5 then you get let the printer go until the spool is empty. The printer wii detect that no more filament is going throught the extruder and will pause the print. Then you can replace the spool by a new one. It can be what ever you want but it is highly recommanded to stick with the same type of material. You can change color but changing brand might caused some issue but should work fine most of the time.

Hi I am having this same problem when you say "If you have the material flow detection enable on the S5 then you get let the printer go until the spool is empty" you mean even the last bit of filamentt can go through the S5? then the flow sensor will detect the change. I am confused because i do not want to open the bowden tube after to take out stuck filament.

    Awaitng clarification, thanks Navin

    Navin2020,

The printer will detect the end of filament before it goes completely out of the extruder. Then a message will appears on the screen saying that you ran out of filament. From there you just have to "change" filament and follow the steps on the screen. The first the printer will do is to unload the remaining filament, then you put the new roll and load the filament and resume the print.

Im sorry im very new when you say extruder u mean where the nozzle is right? because last night the whole filament on the spool had practically gone through the material station and i was thinking if i do not hold the filament it all going to go thorough and no detection would be identified. But then i was thinking maybe the whole filament passes through the material station and the system would find a new spool to load?
