Slicer separating shapes in an object

In the attached design, the horizontal cylinder intersects the (sort of) conical vertical shape.  The solid view shows no gap between the shapes, pretty much like a solid join.

However, when I slice and print the attached shape, the horizontal cylinder has a gap in the intersection. The gap closes as you move up the slicer, but most of the intersection remains apart. That makes the joint really week and useless.

Why is the slicer creating this gap and how can I fill it?

Thanks.

When I imported the models into Cura it reported an error "The model is not manifold".  I haven't seen that before.  It mentioned that the Highlighted areas (polka dot area in your top image) contained extraneous surfaces.

The model did slice and does not show the red "Outer Wall" lines between the cylinder and the vertical feature.  It sliced as a single piece with infill between the two features.  I had Support turned off.

That means it is not watertight you should be able to print your object with other slicers but cura will kepp warning you you can repair your models by the link below

Just drag and drop your file there and it instantly repairs it. Well.... atleast it did mine. 🙂

The file now loads up in Cura without any errors.

Thank you. I just started a vanilla project, sliced it, and the gap is not there. So my project setting must be triggering it... I'll test the differences to find out what.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
