About a year ago, the company I work for got a Ultimaker 3 (E), but until about a month ago it was used and maintained by the IT guy. He recently left and I was put in charge of it. I didn't have any issues until I tried to do PVA with the BB 0.4 core. Right away, the print head started making a noise and nothing extruded. I've tried hot pulls and cold pulls for hours, but this clog doesn't seem to budge. Now, I got some cleaning filament to extrude from it,  but it bubbles and stays on the nozzle. We've only ever used Ultimaker filament, but I'm not sure what material the old IT guy used with the BB 0.4. I got a new core ordered, but this is really grinding my gears.

Thanks, Ranch

Manually set the temperature hotter, and try another hot and cold pull.

you can manually set the temp on the touch screen somewhere.

someone may have put a hotter melt temp

material in it.  What other materials have you been working with?

you can’t break it more.

also try poking up the nozzle with a .3 mm drill or pin.

have had to do this on wood filament before.

aliexpress sell needles just for this job the right size.

The BB core can also clog with PVA.

It is not very unusual for a core to clog. The deposits in the pressure nozzle turn into carbon over time.

(Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, filament to coal)

An acupuncture needle helps well. But generally , manual heating helps well .

If the blockage is higher than the pressure nozzle, a cleaning is difficult. Cold and hot blocked are then not feasible.

(Then I also use a brass rod M3 to press material.)

Although personally I would just buy a new core.

I think.
I give $100 and get two hours of free time and the problem solves itself. Or I work on it for one and two hours and afterwards I am not sure if it would have been better to buy a new one.

I'm not trashing the old Cores for this. One day I'll work on it 🙂

I got the clog broken with a Wire EDM wire, but the true hero was the hot pulls. Thanks for the help

EDM wire- funny that is exactly what I use. not too hard it will scratch or break, but strong enough for the job.

I did not mention it, as most people would have no idea what you are talking about!
