Posted · S3 replacement glass...

Is there a part number for the S3 replacement glass? My machine is brand new, less than 2 weeks old, but the "questionable" method of those metal brackets has already started to chip the glass, so it's only a matter of time before the chip gets bigger and bigger and cracks the glass completely. So, I'd like to get ahead of this and order replacements, wired to have to order replacements so soon on a brand new machine, oh well... 😞

Any other replacement parts I should get ahead of as well?

You can probably order the replacement glass at your resseller store.

As for the metal clips chipping the glass, that is the first time I hear that. Is the chipping happened when installing or removing the glass???

I've never heard of the clips chipping the glass either but its good to have a few spare sheets of glass anyways. They will eventually chip from normal wear and tear especially if you print some of the higher temp materials. I get mine from the Canadian reseller Shop3D.

Other good parts you might want to get are the silicone nozzle covers as I find these wear out pretty quickly, and possibly spare bowden tubes. Spare print cores are nice to have too just in case.

Could you please post a photo of the chips? I have never heard or seen a problem with the metal clips chipping the glass. I have 3 printers that run almost none stop and i have only chipped one bit of glass and that was from some filament i tired sticking to much.

As for the replacement glass, It's the same glass that the Ultimaker 2/3 use for the S3. So your local reseller will stock it and if its not listed on there sites, just send them a email and most will set up a order for you.

I would say don't worry about this little thing. I haven't checked my glass in this area of the clips, but I also don't care about it. But you need a spare glass anyway, if you print with other materials it happens often that during the cool down, or when you remove the part, same small pieces will chip out of the glass.

Yeah, I'll get a spare glass or two, just ever time I use this one and close the clip I hear that awful sound of glass scratching so I know it won't last long. 🙂 Maybe on my printer the clips are extra tight vs. others whom have replied here... 🙂
