Supports not being made: Being created when not needed.

There are two similar issues when using supports.  I use tree supports on both of them.

The first issue is that tree supports are being created but stop a good 1mm before they would be needed.  But they aren't needed.  I have a 6 inch "Y" shaped tree the other day attached to nothing.

The second is that I can print one part with supports turned on but not needed and it prints fine without any supports. BUT, add a second copy of the item and for reasons unknown Cura wants to add supports to both items?

Are these known bugs?

Neither of these "bugs" sound familiar but I rarely use support and when I do it's usually dissolvable.

If you want someone at Ultimaker to take a good look at this, please first post your project files that demonstrate these 2 issues.  Please post a separate project file that shows each issue.

go to menu "file" "save...".  The resulting file contains not only your STL but the scaling, positioning.  Also it has your machine (printer) settings, your material settings, your profile used, and settings that you overrode.  Please post that here.

Sorry for not following up on this as i was in the hospital for along time.  i try avoiding all supports any more so I can't reproduce this.

I've also guessed that some supports aren't created because the distance from the object to the plate is less than 2 layers, and of course there are the other settings which impact support.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
