UM Material Station not winding up the filament spool when retracting

Hi everybody,

After the last few prints, the Material Station fails to wind up material on their spools when it retracts the filament from the printer, so after every print there's huge pile of spaghetti in the Material station. I've rebootet the whole system several times and also updated to the latest firmware(6.5 I believe) and the latest Cura(4.10).

Any idea what to do next?

    1. is the rewinder motor running during the moment of unloading? it is reasonably loud so you should be able to hear it.
    2. are the lights on on the bottom of the machine after reboot, do they change when you insert filament?
    3. Are these normal spools?
Ive had problems rewinding some non ultimaker spools before since they didn't fit well enough and the grip didn't transfer enough (cardboard spools in my case)

if you are familiar with telnet I could give instructions on testing the rewinder motor directly.

If the motor isn't running at all, the lights are responsive and these are normal spools I'd say contact support here it sounds like it could be a hardware problem.

Side note, I recall there is or was a bug where rewinding is blocked if you insert new filament right when it should start the rewinding, but that seems unlikely if it happened multiple times.

Hi and thanks for your help.

It is quite difficult for me to distinguish the motor sound, because on the other side of the wall where the printer is situated, there is the production line so there is always quite an ambient noise from the machines.

There is a motor sound when it is retracting, but I guess it's from the filament drive in the front of the station, right where the filament goes in. The rubber barrel where the spool sits on in the back is not turning.

The lights are on after reboot

All of the spools are Ultimaker spools except one, which is Ultrafuse PAHT CF 15. However, the spool looks just the same except the RFID tag missing.

I  used Telnet before, but it's been a long time and also I don't know if our company network will let it through...

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.

      • Ultimaker Cura 5.6 stable released
Cura now supports Method series printers!

A year after the merger of Ultimaker and MakerBotQQ, we have unlocked the ability for users of our Method series printers to slice files using UltiMaker Cura. As of this release, users can find profiles for our Method and Method XL printers, as well as material profiles for ABS-R, ABS-CF, and RapidRinse. Meaning it’s now possible to use either Cura or the existing cloud-slicing software CloudPrint when printing with these printers or materials
