Wow Facere,

Big problems with your printer! Good that you found help at the forums!

I Have a Question for the mods on this one though:

Would removing the print head and placing it in a bath with acetone help dissolve ABS inside the print head?

(I have not removed the printhead myself though, so I'm not sure if this would be a possibility at least.)

Cheers!

I think acetone probably would help - would be worth trying at least; I was about to suggest that, but then OP fixed the problem anyway. It probably depends on how well baked the ABS is; once it gets burned I'm not sure if it is still soluble; but it probably wouldn't hurt to try - but I figured it would be a pain to do, as you'd need to remove the heater and temps sensor I think, and take it totally off the printer.

I saw rare cases of production issues with the new UM2 nozzle, where a brass shaving would be stuck on the inside of the nozzle. pushing anything from the outside in will only "lift" the brass particle (which may be still attached to the nozzle), while the next printing attempt will cause it to clog the nozzle again.

I would suggest to take off the nozzle completely, clean it out with a hot-air gun and q-tips (like squeaky clean) (and acetone doesn't help you with PLA leftovers, only heat and paper sticks and cotton will do) and see if you find any debris on the inside. if it is really clean, take a small drill bit (i.e. 1-1.5mm) and deburr the inside of the nozzle orifice from the inside a tiny bit (just to take off the sharp edge and ease the flow a bit).

    re-assemble, and enjoy printing.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
