Cura Steam Engine Version Numbers

I have a third party printer (R3D Mini) that comes with a customized version of Cura for Windows. The version number listed in the gcode file is:

“Cura Steam Engine version 15.02.1, Copyright (C) 2014 David Braam”

Near as I can determine this is about 5 to 6 years old.

On my Linux machine (I do not really use Windows for anything) with the current version of Cura installed the version number listed in the gcode file is:

"Generated with Cura_SteamEngine 4.10.0"

Now it has been a while since I a took a course in math .... but it appears that the version numbering was changed at some point (circa 2014?).

Can anyone shed some some light on the Cura version numbering system?

So we used to use year.month.patch. At some point we switched over to semver; Major.minor.patch.

So the last version of Legacy Cura (which the version that you have is based on) is 15.04.6. So we released that in 2015.

We now release a new version every 2 months. We update the major version number if we have major changes (usually API breaking or other really large changes)

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
