Daid,

You got the exaggerated moves (see my posts, aboove) taken care of in 14.02_RC4. I do "see" a "ghost" image in the slices I do (see other posts, above); in one slice it occurred at layer 4. The "ghost" does not appear in the gcode. For now I'm just ignoring it.

I have not attempted a print on my dual head Rostock MAX yet - I've just attempted to slice models using the dual head configuration.

Thank you for your hard work!

Bill

    David,

Could you please make sure that for next RC/final version all brims are printed strictly from the outside to the inside? For multiple objects it sometimes starts from the inside. As the start of a brim is often not perfect, there are gaps between brim and object and the effect of the brim is gone. I lost another print yesterday to this effect.

    thx

    Stefan

Ah, yes. Stupid me keeps forgetting that one. Fixing it right now.

Also, the MacOS crash has been localized.

Yes, like reported a few times before in this thread, RC3 and RC4 crashes on some MacOS machines. I've uploaded an RC5 which I hope that fixes it. (Cannot test it, because it does not crash on any of the Macs in the office)

It also includes a new UM2 firmware to address the stop bug. And fixes the other reported issues (including the brim order, yes, finally ;) )

It's only a small update compared to RC4, but I want to know if the Mac problems are gone now.

(The earlier reported problem with the white outline of the platform is a 3D card driver bug, nothing I can do if that one causes random stuff)

RC5 starts correctly on OS X 10.6.8, loads models but refuses to start slicing:

Layer view stays empty, only showing 0 and 1 at the ends of the slider. Save symbol never gets active. (same behavior as RC2 I think).

Looks like you have some encoding problem, does the file you are trying to slice contain any "none ascii" characters in the filename or path?

Good hint. Look's like Cura 14.* doesn't like German Umlauts (there is one in the full path name) any longer on OS X 10.6.8. R13 and earlier showed no problems.

The behavior foehnsturm described above is similar to what I get on some models with RC3 & 4. This although the same models slice fine on earlier versions. Cant vouch to the error report listing though. Can I get such a listing when I encounter glitches? Again my sys is Win7 64bit.

    Thanks again

Real anxious to try out altering loop vs. perimeter speeds..

Regarding the comments about EOL character in Windows: that's actually an issue with Notepad rather than Windows per se. I strongly recommend that you download the freeware Notepad++ app and using that for all your text file viewing and editing. Among other things it's agnostic when it comes to EOL conventions.

I did not have the time to test RC4, but now I uninstalled RC3 and installed RC5.

Unfortunately when asking for layer view I get the same result as in post #60.

The file output.txt is completely empty now.

The resulting gcode shows the 3 added empty lines from the start code, and an extra line indicating the extruder starts at Z0.30.The other lines are the same.

Diad, good luck in finding the cause for this bug!

    Daid,

I wanted to elaborate on the issue I am hving on my Win7 64 machine that I brought up earlier in post #101, similar to what foehnsturm mentioned at the top of post #107

This is what the slicer view looks like on intial load after uninstalling RC4 and installing RC5 fresh. I skipped most of the set-ups particular to my machine, but did install the drivers this time.

Anyway, on startup, the robot loads as normal on first run. Then the slicing progress bar hangs at ~1%. Layers view displays nothing. Doesn't change anything if I switch to expert or basic controls. If I save the Gcode out, the result is an empty file. If I move the robot around, scale it or change any setting that would normally initiate a re-slice, nothing happens.

Most other models that I try with RC5 do the same or similar. All of which were clean SW models that have sliced successfully in the past. One model, would partially slice maybe 10% and then hang.

RC4 would slice more models, but exhibited the same behavior.

Is there maybe some remnant form an earlier version that could be causing a problem?

    Thanks as always.

mastory, you might be running into the same problem as foehnsturm.

Just tested the fix I have for the encoding problem. No idea what is causing the post #60 problem yet, or the post #101 problem.

Post #60 could be a firewall problem?

I just had the same effect. But I know it's comming from my anti-virus software which is checking every new application on first start-up. As CuraEngine on first slicing. Having moved the object a bit (invoking new slicing process) showed it works on second start-up.

@mastory, btw: You're not referring to the posted picture as Windows 7 aren't you? Looks rather like WinXP with classic style. Might that be a source for graphics related issues?

    Daid,

As of last week, I transferred to a new internet provider that included new hardware. I just tested a few of the problem models in 14.01 with good results. Earlier, I tried turning off the anonymous reporting to see if it made a difference. No luck with there.

Is there a certain firewall port that I should look at? I run Zone Alarm. Each new program that attempts to access the internet requires approval. From then on, its a saved setting. I did get a couple queries for Python which I promptly approved.

I can try some tests to prove or rule out a firewall issue when I get home tonight 8:30 (GMT-5). I am off to work now. I can test that or any other suggestions then.

    Thanks again.

    Dimensioneer,

My screen shot may indeed look WinXP. I have all the aero effects turned off, with classic windows desktop view settings within Win7.

Nice call Daid! It appears that all my issues were related to a firewall. I uninstalled my outdated Zonealarm (that had accumulated a raft of special instructions) and installed the current version. All the problems I was having went away. I think there were outgoing restrictions on Python that were the problem. Time for bed today. I'll try out some of the new features tomorrow.

    Many Thanks

Found a problem in Cura intermittently trying to re-position models a little over a half a million mm in the negative x and y directions. I'm guessing it has something to do with the circular bed parameter, as it never occurred with the square bed only candidates.

    Hi,

installed RC5 for OSX. Stupid question: How can I enable manual extrusion?

I guess I have overseen a basic thing.

Thank you for your help. Jakob

HI! I am user of cura 12, 13 and cura 14.01 sometime ago, and now i tryed 14.02 rc5 for the z hop feature for using combing without scraching the surface of the print, and i have these issues:

-first ,i think is already commented, i install and open cura, and open and object like the calibration cube , its load ok and i can print.

but If i close cura, do the same... cura dont connect to printer, i cant print.

I saw, that if i install cura another time, the first run connects to my printer but the next not.... some odd bug...

    my setup is a prusa i3, win7 64bits

-second, i saw that if i load a stl object, and load another to the scene, it only prints the first, but i see the slicing and the second object appears in layer 20 or so and a mess of lines of movement....

nothing more, because i have to reinstall this cura to use it and i prefer use cura 14.01...

    greetings!

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
