Bring me your bugs! Cura 14.02-RC2 ready for testing.

I was just testing the layer view rendering speed as I got the feeling it wasn't as fast as I initially thought. Turns out I was right, it's actually barely half as fast as in 14.01 on my system. I sliced a 10x10x10cm cube on both (0.1mm, 20% fill). With 14.01 all layers were rendered in 16 seconds, on the new beta it took 39 seconds. The outline is fast but the rest is a lot slower.

Is that as intended or is it something with my system and if so, what details would you need?

@ Dim3nsioneer: Could you please try to open an gcode-file at your notebook too to check if it´s my damn thing...

God thanks that I have a private one too as this damn Dell things set up with company-wide images are like pita...

Sorry for the delay, I was off during lunchtime... -_-

Everything works fine on my notebook (Asus ;)) with the GCODE view. It even started from the bottom when the gcode was loaded. No ghosts, nothing off-normal...

If you have administrator privileges on that notebook, you may want to check if you can update the display drivers...

Haven't seen it, but could be related to the race-condition bug. Does the GCode view not update or does nothing update?

And what if you change a setting? (should trigger a new slice)

If only opening the gcode, I have no visualization in any view.

If I open a new model, I see it in normal view, but I can do whatever I want - change parameters, move the model - no slice is started...

Re-installed it the 3rd time but without success...

Does it say "float division by zero" "engineResultView.py:_gcodeToVBO_quads:228" (and some more)?

I give the text as displayed in the error window (2 different cases:

    1. (Most times)

An error has occurred during the 3D view drawing.

WindowsError: 'exception: access violation reading 0x00000000'

    @ wrapper.py:wrapperCall:763

    @ latebind.py:__call__:45

    @ openglHelpers.py:render:181

    @ engineResultView.py:OnDraw:142

    @ sceneView.py:OnPaint:1034

    @ openglGui.py:_OnGuiPaint:227

    2. (Just one model tested, this model was rotated 180 degrees for correct print position.)

An error has occurred during the 3D view drawing.

NullFunctionError: 'Attempt to call an undefined function glBindBuffer, check for bool(glBindBuffer) before calling'

    @ baseplatform.py:__call__:340

    @ openglHelpers.py:render:193

    @ engineResultView.py:OnDraw:142

    @ sceneView.py:OnPaint:1034

    @ openglGui.py:_OnGuiPaint:227

    (OpenSCAD reports I have OpenGL v 1.4.0 - build 4.14.10.4693)

When opening a gcode file, the second message pops up, but with 128 on the engineResultView line.

I had both instances of cura still open from the test I described above while doing other stuff. I just went to close them down and they both had this error showing. Maybe it's just an effect of having both open at the same time? A sharing violation of some kind?

I got this message as well in earlier versions of Cura when two versions were open in parallel. Not immediately but after some time...

Hmmm... restarted my notebook, re-installed the 4th time, no effect...

It slices the first time after new installation, then no more...

So I have to precice my first post - it NEVER slices again after the first start, nevertheless if I restart Cura or not, move the object or not or change parameters or not...

I´m working with Cura since 13.04 and I had never such troubles on this notebook before.

I will try at my home pc tonight too..

It's not that MacOS really helps in this area. Can you try "Show package contents" on the Cura app goto, "Contents/MacOS" and start Cura from there. It should popup a black terminal window which might show a better error message.

    This is what comes up:

I assume your office notebook runs with Windows. It's in c:\program files (x86)\Cura. And you have to close Cura in order to have it updated with the last messages.

    And good luck!

@ home I had a bit more success than in office - slicing seems to be woring

    BUT:

When going to layer view the following message pops up:

An error has occurred during the 3D view drawing.

WindowsError: 'exception: access violation reading 0x00000000'

    @ wrapper.py:wrapperCall:763

    @ latebind.py:__call__:45

    @ engineResultView.py:OnDraw:142

    @ sceneView.py:OnPaint:1034

    @ openglGui.py:_OnGuiPaint:227

When switching to overhang view the following message appears:

Overhang view not working due lack of OpenGL shaders support

The output.txt at my home pc looks like this: (sorry for long post...)

Found the bug that causes the crash in the layer view (it only happens if you have limited OpenGL support) Which explains the above error messages.

I already have a fix. So I will build a new RC soon, also to address the "older view" bug. I think this will fix the problems drayson is having.

@Callum: Seems like something is preventing Cura from creating a directory for it's configuration. At which point it crashes pretty hard. Maybe you ran some version of Cura as root which created a root owned /Users/callum/.cura ?

Cura is trying to create a directory called /Users/callum/.cura/Cura_14.02-RC2 and that fails. I've added some code to catch this error, but the end result will be that Cura cannot write configuration, no idea what will happen after this.

The clipboard message is something from wxPython, I've done my best to prevent it, but sometimes it can still pop up. It is quite rare.

    Hello Daid,

Can we install the new firmware RC2?

Can we already printed g-code supplied with the RC2?

I did not understand what was using the new plugin ... If you could enlighten my lantern.

For what I tested, at home, on W7 Cura RC2 works well. No apparent bug :)

Daid i dont know could this help but i was playing with Cura, repetier and various downloaded software and had great problems with them writing a file because of letters in my user name (non ascii). I created a other user account called simply a 3d printer and then all started working

    Hi, Daid.

I have been trying out 14.02 this morning and it is generating travel moves that want to take the hotend well off the print bed. I am using your slicer on a Windows 7 dual core computer (i.e., 32 bit). My printer is a dual head Rostock MAX with a RAMBo 1.1 controller.

Here are a few lines of gcode from a slice I did this morning; the "extreme" travel move is listed in the 4th line (colored red):

    G1 F420 X-96.56 Y7.33 E15.61459

    G1 F900 E11.11459

    G1 Z0.80

    G1 F900 E15.61459

    G1 F420 X-82.10 Y-21.88 E16.32066

I have checked and re-checked machine settings, etc., and they are the same ones that worked reliably with Cura 14.01.

Thank you for your great work!

    Hi Daid

Not sure if you realize but the TweakAtZ plugin isn't working in this release

Other than that it's working great for me.

    G1 Z0.80

    G0 X-82.10 Y-31.31

    G1 Z0.30

I have checked and re-checked machine settings, etc., and they are the same ones that worked reliably with Cura 14.01.

Thank you for your great work!

Was this on a single or dual extrusion print?

It was a dual extrusion print. The extruder 2 offset is set to X: 25.1, Y: -.3.

Got something strange when selecting the 'spiralize outer contour' setting. The outline changes into this star- / snowflake- shape line.

Did you copy the ini files from an previous installation to the 14.02RC2?

@BaasB: That looks like a bug alright. But, something to keep in mind, when you use the spiralize function cura will try to make a single wall of that thickness. So in your case it will tell your Ultimaker to extrude a 0.8mm thick bead of plastic. That's asking for a lot.

    Hi Daid,

Thank you for the new version. Looking forward for separate speeds for inner and outer shells.

Regarding the UM2 firmware, did you catch the bug where retraction settings aren't saved? It is somewhat annoying because it must be set every time the printer is powered on.

    Thanks.
