print travel

Can anyone suggest what's happening here? I think that I have an incorrect setting but don't know which it is. There is a lot of travel inside the model which appears to extend to the outside - shown as white spots on the outer surface. I havent't printed this yet as I thought I'de check with a preview. I'm using Cura 5.1

    Hey @paulsroom,

Can you share your project file with us?  🤔
That makes it easier to troubleshoot.

To save a project file go to File -> Save project

From your screenshot I indeed see travels. It's good to keep in mind that the darker blue travels are unretracted and will leave strings, the lighter blue travels will be retracted and should not leave any strings. Stringing should only occur inside of your model since that part is not visible or between supports since that will be removed anyways.

It's a tricky model to print! Are you sure this is the best orientation to print it? I would be worried that I would break off the teeth of the shark when removing the supports. I depending on the purpose I would have the pointy parts point up.

Can you let us know if this helps and what other help you need?
    Thank you 😄

I was actually trying to avoid the surface roughness left from breaking off support. But I think you're right it should be printed the other way up. It's the mouth of an articulated shark. This is not my design and unfortnuately all the sections that make up the shark do not have a flat part that can sit on the printbead.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
