Posted (edited) · Feature suggestion: "membrane" support method for impossible bridges

When printing an object which has a roof/top, you can often bridge to achieve this, but if the roof has holes, it doesn't work any more.

It has occurred to me though that if there was a support feature/method which allowed you to handle such cases by bridging the entire roof with 1, or 2 layers only, before continuing on as normal, it would allow you to print the part with holes, just sealed with a thin membrane... this is HUGELY more optimal in some cases as the hole can be cleared by swizzling a drill bit between fingers if it's a small round hole, or perhaps using a scalpel in other cases... compared to sometimes wasting quite a lot of plastic and time with a huge support structure, I think sometimes it would be a massive performance bonus!

Obviously one could put in the membrane at the design stage, but it's a pain to manage that at the part design stage.
