Posted · Cura 5.4, 5.5 won't open in Ubuntu 23.X

Several months ago, prior in between Ubuntu 23.04 and 23.10, I was informed (by UltiMaker Support Staff) that libfuse2 had to be installed. This module was no longer required by Ubuntu OS repository apps because libfuse3 was in use. I tried that dutifully but unfortunately Cura AppImage (X64) would not launch.

Currently, neither 5.4 or 5.5.beta will launch even with libfuse2 installed. Any 5.x version will suffice for my newbie needs. How can I get a Cura version up and running under Ubuntu 23.10 (or Debian Bookworm arm64/aarch64)? Thanks.

Regards.

Sorry for piggy-backing on OP but it doesn't make sense to start a new thread when I can try whatever suggestion is made to the current OP.

I split you off anyway into a new topic. The other person probably didn't have ubuntu.  I have ubuntu 22 and it works fine.

Did you try both versions of cura "modern" and regular appImage?  It definitely matters.  I have been using "modern".

Please post the log file here.  The log file I believe is in this path: ~/.local/share/cura/<Cura version>/cura.log

    I think I'll avoid ubuntu 23 for a while!!

Half of the Ubuntu flavours aren't even bothering making installation media files for 23.10... there's just so much "nothing new". Sticking to LTS versions (every two years, current is 22.04, next is 24.04) is generally a good idea.

Mandatory disclaimer: personal opinion An even better idea is using a different distribution entirely. Linux Mint Debian Edition is nice. Much as I love openSUSE Tumbleweed myself it's definitely not for everyone.

On Ubuntu 24.04, Cura 5.6 will not run, but it suggests installing a fuse after the failure to start in the messages.  Do NOT install fuse, but install libfuse2 (sudo apt install libfuse2).  Installing fuse has very bad effects on my systems.
