Cura Crashing On Startup - Cura has stopped working (win7)

Posted · Cura Crashing On Startup - Cura has stopped working (win7)

Hello,

I was running Cura 4.2.1 on Win7x64. This used to work fine, and now it crashes on startup. 'Cura has stopped working'.

I've installed a bunch of other software since it worked, including Python.

The cura log file contains the entry: 'Fatal Python error: Segmentation fault'.

I have python 3.8 installed which runs fine.

Tried uninstalling and re-installing cura and python. No fix. Accepted all the installation defaults. Installer completes without error.

Does anyone have an idea of what has gone wrong?

Thanks.

Not sure if this helps, but I'm 90% sure whatever version of Python you have installed doesn't matter - it includes its own interpreter (or at least it does for post-processing scripts written in Python, spent over an hour trying to figure out why the hell my f-strings weren't working).

Python segmentation faults are usually an extension written in another language trying to reach memory out of bounds or hitting a recursion limit... but that still doesn't help you.

    Actual advice:

Close Cura. Uninstall Cura. Go to %APPDATA%\cura\ and delete (or move them somewhere else is probably better so you can restore stuff, especially if this doesn't fix it) all its contents. Reinstall Cura.

    Hi,

Just tried the above and it still crashes on startup.

Well it's been 14 hours and no response so I guess I suggest you go here and post your issue, and include the full log file:

    https://github.com/ultimaker/cura/issues

You'll get a bit better response there typically.  Although, let me try one more thing.  Maybe @MariMakes has some suggestions of things to try.  But I suspect it was your python install.  I know you said you uninstalled python but this is still the most likely issue in my mind.
