Done! Yeah, another thing accomplished before 10 a.m.! Kinda scary that I somehow turned into a morning person...
How was my day? Long I'm at the Trondheim Maker Faire currently, well, I'm at the hotel right now. The day started with some very good news, the printers we shipped a week ago that got stuck in customs, twice, arrived at the last moment, literally minutes before bus loads of kids started showing up. From then on it was pretty much non stop talking to people the whole day. Tiring, but fun

me thinks... my little wee irish brain will need some serous convincing to hit the bed.....
HELP !!!! LOL
hi guys !!
today was one of those days where no one smiled.... no one said anything... just work.....
I can do pure work for a few hours but then I start to bug out.. I need some sort of human contact... a little chat for a minute or something like that... NOPE....
So madness set in and I decided to use my current design project (a new air ventilation housing for a power converter that has poor air circulation) into a..... PORNO.....
so enjoy the lighter side of my day !!!
Ian
This stuff you drank.... are you sure it was only coffee??????
On a totally unrelated note, I thought you might like to know that the https://www.ultimaker.com/products/um2-parts-hot-end-pack-um2 has been updated!
The nozzle, hot end bundle, glass plate and other parts for the Ultimaker 2 are now available
@ian hahahaha, that made me laugh. it's said to hear that the work ethic is so bad there. my day has been cool. we unpacked the new shopbot. then i got back to working on the new user manuals (which can be quite boring).
and i've been doing some printing so all and all not a bad day. now up to the next meeting

I kinda think the work mood is actually more german than just here. I have worked for 3 big engineer design companies now in germany and they all lacked two things... a real sense of company culture and also the willingness to make a bad joke and laugh loud....also... loyalty in both directions between worker and company doesn't exist... work where the money is best and screw everything else....from both sides !
I guess sometimes the stereotypes can be right.....
Ian, i always thought that in Germany, good engineers were thought of very highly and paid to match too?
they are some of the best engineers in the World and in Bavaria get paid very well. I earn 3 times what I did in Leipzig.
BUT
Company culture is now totally fixed on what is happening and will happen in the next 6 months.. so they use people like batteries... pushing harder and harder and getting massive output but with no respect for the well being of the good people... and when good people burn out and walk... the companies shoot themselves in the foot big time...
There is no future plan or need or want to build a company family....
VERY VERY SAD.....

WOOT
Ian, have you watched that documentary "Make Me A German" about a British couple who moved to Germany for a while and tried to live as Germans? There's this scene where the guy uses his mobile phone at work to send a text and everyone's super shocked and, like, "nope, we never ever do this at work, how do you ever get anything done at work when everybody's texting all the time". It's probably still floating around the Internet in case you missed. It's pretty interesting.
From my limited experience working in Germany and abroad, there's a greater disconnect between private life and work in Germany. Your job is a means to an end, first and foremost. There's no need to identify with your company. The fact that you work is important, not what you do. This entails that people don't care that much about their colleagues because that would mean mixing private and professional lives. And professionalism means pragmatism. Enthusiasm or any non-money-generating activity is seen as unprofessional.
Also, from the 60 people in my engineering class at least 50 were extremely introverted nerds who are not used to small talk or human interactions in general when sober (and only marginally better when drunk). People will thaw eventually, it just might take a few years.
From my extensive experience with working and living in Germany I can tell a complete different story. It may be just the field you work in (software development here), but the last company I worked for (selfemployed now) was a great place and I am still friends with half of my old colleagues.
Yeah but making video games is much cooler regardless where you do it.
I can't tell for Germany but here in Canada (Montreal at least) we have both sides. I worked in multiple games studios and some teams can be awesome and some can be very counter productive even within the same company. Its like if every project was a small company.
