Is it just me or does CES seem rather boring this year?

Only exciting news came from Ultimaker.

IMHO the Voxel8 is exciting. Printing with conductive inc "it is 5000x more conductive then the conductive pastes and filaments currently being used and experimented with by other companies".

And the resolution of the OWL MC-1 and MC-2 is quite impressive (Resolution: 1 micron) ô.O.

    Ok, it's Photopolymer not FDM,

Yeah the OWl is impressive. but fricken ugly. and not something I can look forward to buying in the near future.

I do like the Voxel8 and found it very interesting. but i mean the whole show hasn't come out with anything overly exciting enough to make your balls tingle.

Razer with OSVR, and their android TV is quite fun. And that new Dell laptop looks sick!

I took a look at the lab in one of the faculties of Delft University of Technology(the Industrial Design building) where they used to have 1 UMO:

Yeah, 4 UM2's :D Also, the Mechanical Engineering lab dumped their makerbots and is ordering UM2's also :D

Notice the difference in LED's in between the two pairs they ordered. Any clue how to fix that?

Anyhow, they now allow ALL students from their faculty to print stuff for FREE. During this period of the semester, the end, it's booked for TWO WEEKS in ADVANCE :D Really like what they are doing.

@Sander, might be a fun idea to reach out, they all have so many UM's now together, printing nonstop, for an article and also for R&D since they didn';t mod a single thing(and they are also using UM filament).

Did you see it action? I've seen a demonstration of the printer in Fablab013, very impressed.

The machine looked pretty simple, and made impressive fast prints.

Would like to have one as my next printer, although getting more expensive month by month :( .

When I saw it, a Kit price of 1800€ was mentioned.

and about the speed, it only determined by the hight, so a big (xy) object is just a fast as a small object .

    How was your day?

    Well I had a good week :)

Started in a new (temporary) Job.

After finishing ProjectEGG I had to find something new to spend the day ;)

It's a 'career' change, from printing plastics, switching to destroying  and re-using plastic products.

We already have an official relation with the TU delft. Bas, one of our mechanical engineers is there for one day every two weeks.

The difference in leds is probably because of different batches. I dont think the leds are speced that strictly.

The LED'S on the newer machines are terrible. People probably don't complain enough becasue most people don't have multiple UM2's, but for those of us who do.... the new LED's might as well be turned off (yeah... they're that bright)

That sucks. I'm thinking to buy a second one in the year to come. I hope that will be addressed. Some of the LEDs on mine are already dead.

Check this printer out. Carbon Fiber and Kevlar filament and a supposed 10 micron accuracy.

Wow, it certainly has a high price point, I wonder if the benefits of a Carbon Fiber system really make that much of a difference?

For you hard core 3D printing geeks and designers out there (guilty), there is a challenge on GrabCad to design a hand rail clamp for NASA. Cash prizes, pretty simple project, plus you get the recognition that something designed is in space!

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
