Posted · What setting to change for extremely short outer perimeter extrude moves?

Hi all,

I've sliced a model and tried to print it, but the gcode includes extremely short perimeter runs where holes are close to the outer wall.

Trying to print these leads to the other parts peeling of the bed and ruining the first layer. What setting do i need to change to prevent this?

I've included a series of images to show the progress of the out wall and the shirt runs, where the 2nd and 3rd images show the ruinous runs.

Kind regards,

Based on the screenshots, it looks like it's because the lower set of circles juuuuust intersect the outer wall, which leaves a tiny gap that needs to be filled. If you'll excuse my Paint skills:

It will print as much of the outer wall as it can in a continuous line, so the circles win on the distance factor. That's why it prints bits to fill them first, so then it can do the long run with all the interruptions already taken care of.

Thanks for the reply, Slashee. Love the diagram!

I think what you said is likely correct. This is not my model but I am responsible for getting it printed in a usable condition and I managed to do that eventually after slowing down the first layer further.

I will suggest to the designer that holes are at least one wall width away from the edge in future iterations.

    Thanks again,

I have no idea what the holes are for, but if there's going to be any stress whatsoever put on them, you'll need more than one wall. Depends on your line width but I try to make sure all my holes are at least 1mm away from the outer wall.
